Holistic approach
She and colleagues randomly assigned 97 pearl jewellry patients at the clinic to take part in a 10-session mind/body programme while undergoing in-vitro fertilisation treatments.
The programme had no effect on how many women conceived during the first try, Domar told the meeting, with 43% of the women getting pregnant.
But for women who failed the first time and were having a second try, 52% who took part in the mind/body programme became pregnant, compared to only 20% of those who did not.

Cape Town - The choice of name should leave a wry taste in the mouth of the hundreds of cultured freshwater pearl retired investors left sans income since Van Zyl's former business fell flat.
The business plan for Decent Capital Limited appears on the www.decentcapital.com website, which is apparently registered in Hong Kong. The business plan was drawn up in September.
The business is described as an asset manager for its own Cayman Islands-registered property fund.
The document states that Decent Capital envisages managing assets worth HK$5bn (R4.7bn), by which time the cultured freshwater pearl company will be worth more than HK$300m (R285m).
The fund also anticipates listing on the Singapore Stock Exchange in five years' time.
One of the links on the website brings up an April 2008 Afrikaans video on YouTube.com, in which Van Zyl, as chief executive of Capital Investments (the holding company of City Capital), chats with SummitTV presenter Dawie Roodt.
Van Zyl neglects to say that this company has been liquidated and that his property fund is under provisional liquidation. After enquiry, Van Zyl added new information to the website under the heading "Bad things that happened to me?".

Third of SA's roads 'dying'
Cape Town - Minister of Transport S'bu Ndebele has said South Africa faces a R38.3bn backlog in maintaining the country's core national (R18.4bn) and provincial (R19.9bn) road networks.
Answering a parliamentary question, the pearl earrings minster stopped short of giving details of government plans to address the situation. Instead, he stressed that resolving it would depend on whether treasury made the necessary funds available.
According to the minister, 4 142 km (32%) of the non-toll national road network have a remaining structural life of less than five years, and need "strengthening" within the next five years.
